The Lord Jesus Is with His Church in the Apostolic Ministry of the Gospel

The crucified and risen Lord Jesus is with His Church through the word of His apostles, who “are witnesses of all that he did.” He was anointed by God “with the Holy Spirit and with power,” and “he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil,” and so He was with those whom He sent “to preach to the people” (Acts 10:38–42). The Holy Spirit is bestowed on those who hear that apostolic preaching, who are “baptized in the name of Jesus Christ,” so that “everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name” (Acts 10:43–44, 48). For as He came by the water of His Baptism, even to the blood of His Passion, so the Spirit testifies to the truth with “the water and the blood” in the apostolic ministry of the Gospel (1 John 5:6–7). By these means, Christ Jesus speaks to us, that His joy may be in us and that our “joy may be full.” For this purpose, He appointed the apostles to “go and bear fruit” in order to make known His divine friendship to us (John 15:11, 15–16).

    on earth as it is in heaven.

SET APART TO SERVE. . . Is there a young man in your congregation you would like to encourage to consider becoming a pastor? How about someone who would be a great Lutheran school teacher, deaconess or DCE? Jesus gives His church people who work full time in service to the Gospel. He told us to pray for such workers. Along with our prayers, the LCMS has begun Set Apart to Serve (SAS), an intentional effort to encourage young people to consider church work as their lifelong vocation. 80th Anniversary Trivia: The Motto/Mission Statement that was posted in the bulletin in 1944 was “Uncompromising Loyalty to Christ and the Bible”.

ASCENSION WORSHIP SERVICE . . . Forty days after Jesus rose from the dead He ascended into heaven! Let's gather for a Circuit Ascension service at Trinity — Crown Point at 7 pm on Thursday, May 9th. Pastor Nygaard will be preaching the sermon. Other pastors, choir members, and brass from our sister churches will all be gathering together to celebrate.

BOOK CLUB will be meeting on May 21st at noon in the conference room to discuss “The Leisure Seeker “ by by Michael Zadoorian. Bring a lunch.

DOOR COLLECTION . . . for Ascension Lutheran Christian School As our faithful educational, Sunday School and Confirmation Classes come to an end, let us remember our neighbors, the children at Ascension Lutheran Christian School in Gary. Let us do what we can to help support these little one’s faith and education. Please consider making a donation on May 12th.

FEED THE FLOCK TIME Trinity Memorial will be preparing and serving lunch on May 18th at the First Presbyterian Church on Taft. We are going to try something different: Spaghetti, garlic bread, green beans, fruit cocktail and desserts. Please see the sign up sheet in the narthex. If you are just providing food items, please have them delivered by 9:00-9:15 am to our church. They will be picked up and taken over there for the meal. Please consider helping this endeavor. Thank you.

SPRING CLEANUP DAY – Saturday, May 11th from 9:00 am ~ 12:00 noon we will gather to do some spring cleaning. Most of the work will be on the exterior of the church clearing out the weeds around the buildings, edging, preparing the garden area, and other odd jobs as needed.
