Pastor's Monthly Letter

February, 2015

When making the perfect martini, James Bond says.."Shaken, not stirred." Well according to my guru of all food stuff, Alton Brown, James Bond has got it wrong. Clear drinks need to be stirrred, and since shaking a spirit with ice chills it far colder than necessary, an aromatic spirit such as gin or vermouth will lose some of their flavor when chilled beyond 32 degrees. In other words...shaking a drink does harm to the spirit. (Spirit in this case being another word or alcohol). It dawned on me the other day while I was confronting the issue of how Social Media has changed the landscape our children must navigate, that these issues can be too big and too scary. It's a frightening change in culture that our parents must face. And after reading dozens of posts made by atheists who are out to attack our chlldren's faith, I got a litle bit discouraged and depressed. I must admit that I was shaken. I didn't have easy or simple answers. I didn't see any easy or simple ways to deal with the issue. I felt like David must have felt confronting Goliath.
